NWU INFORMS CARIBBEAN GRAINS OF MOBILIZATION INITIATIVE
The National Workers Union (NWU) has written to the Management of Caribbean Grains Ltd. informing the company’s Management that the National Workers Union has completed the mobilization initiative among workers employed with that company.
The letter went on to state that it is the right of any Saint Lucian or French worker to exercise his or her right to freedom of association in keeping with Convention 98 of the International Labour Organization (ILO) of which the Saint Lucia is a member.
The workers are not at all happy with the kind of treatment meted out to them and as a result they made the decision to seek representation from the trade union.
The National Workers Union will soon be submitting a recognition claim to the Ministry of Labour. During the period of processing that claim, the NWU expects that the company will cooperate and avoid making any decisions that could create an unpleasant situation between the company and the NWU.
Caribbean Grains operates at the Free Zone and Sea Port in Vieux Fort. And is owned by a French Group. A copy of the NWU’s letter was copied to the French Ambassador in Saint Lucia.
