The National Workers Union Women’s Council on Friday 17th September 2021, held its second Women’s Congress under the theme “Celebrating Acts of Courage by Ordinary Women for Gender Equality Even Through Covid-19”.

The event which assumed a hybrid format featured a Keynote Speaker in the person of Ms. Sanue Joseph: Marketing Consultant, Founder and Chair of Where Ladies Talk, and Executive Producer of The Soup @ Calabash TV. Ms. Joseph pointed to the grim reality that just as women were beginning to make strides in the workforce Covid-19 came and set us back but she reiterated that woman and girls are determined to continue the fight for equality in spite of the challenges brought about by Covid-19. She encouraged attendees to empower themselves to be prepared for continued struggle and explained that as small as the steps can be they are worth celebrating.

Of paramount importance is the participation of female members; the NWU seeks to hear the voice of women representatives from various sectors within the hierarchy of the union structure and maintains that union policies reflect women’s concerns.
