INDUSTRIAL IMPASSE BETWEEN NWU AND SOUFRIERE HOT WIRE RIDES RESOLVED
An industrial impasse between the Management of Soufriere Hot Wire Rides Limited and the National Workers Union (NWU) has been resolved.
The parties met at the Department of Labour’s Vieux Fort Office on Wednesday March 7, 2018 under the Chairmanship of Senior Labour Official, Mr. Joseph Joseph to discuss the company’s decision to make six (6) workers redundant after receiving a recognition claim by the NWU.
The meeting established that the company did not follow the provisions of the Labour Legislation of Saint Lucia thereby making the company’s decision null and void.
The following were agreed upon:
- The six redundant workers will be reinstated with pay.
- A Secret Ballot Poll will be held on Monday March 19, 2018 at which all non-managerial workers will participate to determine their choice of representation.
The company and the National Workers Union thanked the Department of Labour for its timely intervention and also expressed appreciation for the cordial atmosphere under which the impasse was resolved.
